Ohio College Photograph Albums 1915-1920

The collection is comprised of two photograph albums, dated 1915-1920, including informal snapshots of young men and women. Photograph captions such as "At Western," "Off for O.S.U.," "Scenes at Ohio Northern University," "Senior Girls," and "Psi Chi Fraternity House" indicate that the creator of the albums was probably a college student. Many photographs are accompanied by captions that vary in specificity. Some captions give the dates of the photographs and identify the people and locations pictured. There are also photographs of early automobiles; an aviation meet in Celina, Ohio; pets, such as cats and dogs; radio stations; recreational activities such as canoeing, hiking, picnics and ice skating. Travels outside of Ohio are documented by photographs of Mackinac Island; Niagara Falls; Concord, Massachusetts; Boston, Massachusetts; New York, New York; Washington D.C. and Arlington, Virginia; Galveston, Texas; and a transatlantic trip to London. The World War I era is indicated by photographs that of young men in military uniform; a photograph of a young woman wearing a Red Cross nurse's uniform; and three photographs of General John J. Pershing in Newport News, Virginia.
